A Positive Workplace Means… Being Visible and Branding Yourself! To help you to stay on track or to “bounce back” this year, I’m happy to share a new format with you that will include some of my personal navigation tips – words of wisdom, reflections, affirmations, books, articles and practical advice – that have helped me to focus on the positive and continue moving forward over the years. Here’s to new beginnings! Enjoy! Over the past couple of years, I’ve been invited to speak with several “in transition” groups about attitude, motivation, morale and the importance of staying positive during their job search after a downsizing. The conversation ultimately focuses on new beginnings, branding yourself and reinvention. Whether you are searching for a new job or doing your best to survive and thrive in your current job during these challenging times, reinventing yourself as a person – emotionally, physically and spiritually – on a regular basis is key to a successful personal and professional life. Continuous learning and picking up new skills every few years will also help with your reinvention and are survival necessities! Part of the reinvention process is creating a branding statement. Have your ever thought about your own personal brand? What do you stand for? What makes you visible or invisible in today’s job market or workplace? How does your 30-second elevator speech communicate your brand? What? You don’t have an elevator speech? In a Parade Magazine article last year, Martin Lindstrom suggested the following: “Become well known for one thing. Create it! Begin to live it! Why just a single word? Because as a culture, we are flooded with too much information, whether we are tweeting, e-mailing, juggling cell phone calls. Amid this barrage of white noise, individuals who can attract attention via a simple association have a decided advantage.” What if you asked some of the people in your circle to describe you – your brand - in one phrase or adjective, what would they say? Thinking too hard about the answer? It might be time to reinvent and rebrand! Don’t know where to start? Let me help you build a concise branding statement that will differentiate you from others in similar fields, focus your message, project credibility and confidence! Let people know in 30 seconds who you are and how you can help them… Think Coca Cola is the greatest brand in the world? Think again…the greatest brand in the world is YOU!
